Online conversations with Haitians during school closure
Hopefully, everyone and their families are staying healthy! Underclassmen, please give Seniors until Wednesday, March 18 to sign up for the remaining dates that are available on this current Signup Genius. Seniors, this school closure time is a great opportunity for you to do your required 2 hours of Online Conversations with Haitians. If necessary, we will make more time slots available. If your required 2 hours are not completed during the school closure period, there will be April and May dates available for online conversations when school resumes, when you will be very busy with testing and Senior activities. So, please take this time during school closures to complete your two hours of online conversations so that you can have your FHS cord at graduation. Please contact Mme LeClair-Ash if you have any questions ([email protected]).
Adhering to the directive of Fulton County Schools and the CDC (see blue text below), please practice "Social Distancing". If you can continue doing the Zoom conversations in your own home, please do so. An idea is to do your Signup date but only with your own family members. You could invite your siblings or parents to join in segments of your online conversations if you wish. If you cannot do your Signup date, please email Mme LeClair-Ash and delete your date from the Signup Genius so that other students can use this date for their service hours.
The CDC and public health officials are continuing to share guidance for the general public to practice “social distancing,” which they have described as “all individuals should limit community movement and adapt to disruptions in routine activities.” The CDC also says, “social distancing means remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.” Please be mindful and take precautions daily. These measures and overall good hygiene practices will help mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Meeting Wednesday, March 4 7:50AM Room 2725
Please remember to come to the meeting on March 4. We will discuss the Induction Ceremony and additional ways to earn service hours. We will also distribute t-shirts and talk about our fundraising for Haiti, which has been a huge success! Within the next week, officers will be updating service hours on the spreadsheet. As you complete your service hours, please maintain your French Honor Society service hour log sheet so that you are always aware of the hours you have completed.
Hours & Cords for Seniors
*Please remember to use the Sign-up Genius (scroll down) to sign up for the English conversations with Haitians. A minimum of 2 hours are required. More slots for the month of March will soon be added. Check back soon! *Hours for all members should be completed by Friday, May 1. By the next meeting, we will revise our spreadsheet with hours from Mardi Gras, National French Exam and Induction Night. *Officers and adviser will have a cord meeting with Seniors later this month. This will ensure that Seniors are aware of expectations for completing hours prior to May 1 in order to earn their FHS graduation cords. |
Induction Night Monday, March 9 at 6:30PM
New inductees should try their best to attend. Family and friends are welcome. Spanish and Latin Honor Societies will be inducted as well. You should plan to dress nicely and conservatively. However, we always have a few students who attend who come directly from practice and don't have time to change. For service hours, French Honor Society students will earn 1/2 hour for any of the food/drink/paper product items from the Sign-up Genius with a maximum of 2 hours. Attendance & helping is "time on task". Please use the Sign-up Genius. |
Mardi Gras Fundraising TO BENEFIT HAITI
The fundraising during the Mardi Gras time frame is one of our most important activities of the year. All profits will be sent to HHP English Institute in Haiti, which is an English school we have partnered with. We will sell Mardi Gras beads before school and during lunch periods and will host a bingo evening on Friday, Feb. 21 from 6 - 8 PM in the CHS cafeteria. We will also create an online school payment option soon for anyone who wishes to donate to this fundraising endeavor. There are several opportunities for students to earn service hours (see Signup Genius links below). Service hours can be used for French Honor Society as well as the International Skills Diploma Seal Global Service hours requirements. If you would like to earn service hours for other clubs and organizations, please see those advisers to see if this volunteer work will be approved.
On Tuesday morning, Feb. 11, French Honor Society members met to discuss details of the Fundraising Activities.
Below, are the meeting minutes.

Upcoming Events: Mardi Gras Fun & Fundraising
All funds that are raised will be sent to the HHP English Institute in Haiti. Students from this school have already been hired for their English skills. Our help through fundraising and online conversations is crucial in helping these young Haitian men and women learn English, get jobs and pull themselves out of poverty. The founder of the HHP English Institute will be at Cambridge all day on Tuesday, Jan. 28 to talk to the French classes and meet with FHS and other interested clubs. He is excited to share his love of Haiti, the Haitian people and his dreams for the HHP English Institute. During the weeks surrounding Mardi Gras, FHS will hold several fundraisers. Soon, we will publish the dates, times and a Signup Genius for students to help. Here are the events that are still in the planning phase.... Fat Tuesday Bake Sales in the morning: Bake sales are no longer approved events by Fulton County. Mardi Gras Bead Sales in the cafeteria during the lunch periods: Friday, Feb. 21, Monday, Feb. 24, Tuesday, Feb. 25 (We will need a few students to help sell beads every lunch period on these days) Bingo night with prizes: Friday, Feb. 21 from 6 - 8 PM (We will need students for a variety of tasks on this night.) |
